Alex Haley water maple - Male High School

This historic water maple tree, (genus Acer species Saccharinum, also known as a silver maple), originated from a tree grown at Alex Haley's grandparents home. This descendant is located in Louisville, KY on the southwest lawn of Male High School in the historical tree museum.

The plaque reads:
ALEX HALEY WATER MAPLE
Seedling under which Alex
Haley played when he
visited his grandparents.
Alex Haley was the author
of "Roots" which was later
made into a movie.
